As a professional portrait photographer I always aim to create the best, most beautiful images of my clients that they will love. I take the time to learn about each one of them. We talk about color, style, genre, concept, and lots of other things that go into creating a custom portrait experience. We talk about what the outcome and purpose of each image and the series as a whole will be and I do everything in my power to bring their vision to life.

That being said, I still try to get a photos in each session that allows my creative heart to sing. This is a photo of 15 year old Emma. The morning of Emma’s shoot I saw these beautiful lilies in my yard. I knew Emma's favorite color was green so I wrapped her up in some green tulle and sent my assistant down to get those flowers. I was in the mood to create something ethereal and beautiful with my gorgeous client and I loved the final image here.
On another note, since 12/2020 I decided to submit a minimum of 10 images that I love to the Portrait Masters professional competition that is officiated by my favorite photographer Sue Bryce. So far I have 43 Award winning images. Emma is my top scoring image. 3 Silvers, 8 Bronze with Distinction and 32 additional Bronze Award Winning Images to date! The gallery inside is the rest scoring from highest to lowest. The reflection newborn image of Tara was a category finalist. Number 13 of 20. You can see the category winners here!
I think it's a fantastic idea to challenge myself and I encourage every professional photographer to find a genre they love and periodically enter contests among your peers. It's a great way to force you to pay attention to what you're doing as you grow as a creative.
